Three years after the start of the Arab Spring revolutions, it appears overthrowing dictatorships is easier than democracy building. Further, the correlation between the two is not always inevitable. Change is becoming more complicated, in some cases the situation is at a standstill, in others we seem to me moving backwards. Because actors have a collective responsibility, it has become necessary to examine the general situation and major junctures as well as specific intricacies and details of the transitional phase. This session will discuss the transitional phase’s trajectories in Arab Spring countries and look at the performance of different actors including government, opposition, civil society and youth who sparked the revolution. The session will shed light on the roles, positions and policies of these actors.
